more knitting from these little fingers

ivy came up with the idea to knit anna (her bff over in america) a special present for christmas. much thought went into exactly what she would make, and in the end she settled on the idea of arm-warmers. "anna loves cool stuff like that". they had to be pink, nothing but pink would be acceptable.

so using some chunky needles of mine she cast on 15 stitches and kept knitting until she had a nice little rectangle that wrapped just perfectly around her wrist. she sewed up the rectangle into a tube with a large needle and the pink yarn, then added a few stitches to make a divider for the thumb to peek out on its own.

the next day, another one to keep the other arm just as cosy. cosy enough to curl up for a nap!

what a lovely gift for someone who lives in a place where wrists need warming (perhaps sweatbands could be knitted for friends in hot climates?!!), simple enough for the amateur knitter such as myself - tara, you might get a pair from me next year...

he just bought a new house with a dam and built that ramp like 5 minutes after moving in. 

we had a great time watching him do his stunts on a hot afternoon...

there is a new falconbridge in town...and we are so very excited for this beautiful new little family. he was born last week, exactly one year ago to the day that phill and jane arrived in america to visit us. who would have known how much could happen and change in one year?

what fun we all plan to have with this new cousin...i can just imagine these two boys of ours getting into all sorts of mischief together as they grow, just like their daddies did. welcome sweet boy!

two weeks to go and we have done 52Q!

finishing things has never been my strong point (i know you've noticed!)...mick gets annoyed at me for never finishing the last inch of water in my glass...but i'm doing my best! this time of year is always so speedy and busy - we had our anniversary and ivy's birthday (+ party) last week so i hope you can forgive me for the double-up on this week and last.

a little etsy re-open

i brought with me to perth a box of christmasy-scrapbooky-stuff with the crazy notion of hosting a workshop this christmas. well, no-one sent me the memo about three children being 100x more work than two, so i skipped that idea...but i do have the box of stuff here and so i have made up some packs with fun bits in in perfect for making a december journal (or two!), cards, layouts etc. 

the kits are in my etsy shop (sorry about the pricey international shipping, i went to the post office to find out the costs and was shocked!)...

along with orders for these beautiful nativity sets!
they are made by local artist and mother at our school, i went along to a workshop on the weekend to make my own (so far i have a cute baby jesus, a dreadlocked joseph and a rather wonky mary made!), they are so lovely in real life - my photos don't do them justice. each piece is made from pure, plant-dyed wool. the figures are about 6-8 inches tall and make for a wonderful, natural christmas display. more details in my etsy shop...and a few more goodies from one of my fave artists will be for sale in there later this week, i'll keep you posted ;)

"its really starting to look like christmas!" says she...

excitement is in full swing this week - luckily for us (our christmas things are in a storage unit) the christmas queen aka my mother bestowed upon us a lovely little fake tree and box of decorations. the girls decorated it all by themselves and i don't even mind that it is all clumped together in one spot!

 

i'm a bit sad to not have a real tree, but brought a little bit of the outside in with this wreath (fashioned fron different leafy bits just placed on the table). mick made the stable from a nice stick we found and a scrap of fabric, lots of fun to play with the nativity! being the first week of december we light one candle each night for our family prayer, next week two candles and so on. it's my favourite spot in the living room.

new stockings were in need this year made from felt sheets and thrifted wool jumpers (felted first), seeing as there were 5 to make i kept it nice and simple - instructions here, as well as details on organising stocking stuffer swap (an awesome concept blog reader carrie introduced to me). 

of course, i am busy busy trying to make christmas presents in the 5 minutes of time i get here and there, and am wondering which of my three brothers i like least - need to whittle my gift list down a bit ;)

52Q - 48

Q - what have you done over and over this week?

i have been LATE! late for school every day (25 mins one day when i put sleeping banjo and sleeping yindi into the car then could not find the keys anywhere - stress!) - poor ivy! late for bed (yawn!), late for everything...including posting this weeks 52Q! i'm sorry - it's a disease that appears to be getting worse and worse!
